American Heart Association - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Initial Course

Prerequisite:  A current BLS Healthcare Provider CPR Card.

The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children.  These include personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements.  Students who successfully complete all components of the PALS course will receive a PALS Provider course completion certification card, valid for two years.

The PALS Course includes:

o  Key changes in pediatric advanced life support, reflecting the new science from the 2025 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care

o  1 and 2 rescuer child CPR and AED use

o  1 and 2 rescuer infant CPR

o  Management of respiratory emergencies

o  Rhythm disturbances and electrical therapy

o  Vascular access

o  Resuscitation team concept

o  Cardiac, respiratory and shock case discussions and simulations

o  Systematic Approach to Pediatric Assessment

 Course Format:  12 HOURS (OVER TWO DAYS) - Students MUST attend both days

Pre-Course Requirements:

1.  Complete the Pre-Course Self-Assessment, print your scores and bring them with you to class.

2.  The PALS course does not teach algorithms, ECG rhythm recognition, or pharmacology.  If you do not understand ECG and pharmacology information in the Pre-Course Self-Assessment, it is unlikely that you can successfully complete the PALS Provider Course.
